Board USAby Rafael Souza

For senior managers, directors, VPs and C-level

The decision about your candidacy is made in a room you have never been in.
That room is what Board USA opens.

Board USA prepares internationally trained senior and executive professionals for the U.S. corporate market, from the perspective of the people who make the call: the ones who open the role, run the interviews, compare finalists and approve the offer.

Most career advice about the United States is written by people who went through the process once, from the outside. What changes the outcome happens on the inside.

  • Roles in the USD 120,000 to 200,000+ range
  • For professionals still abroad and for those already in the United States
  • Visas and petitions stay with specialist attorneys. The work here is career strategy

The Engineering of an American Job

How a foreign senior profile is read inside a U.S. company, in the order the reading actually happens.

  • The four filters between your application and an interview, and where international profiles usually stop
  • How to translate your title without dropping a level in the U.S. structure
  • Why "grew revenue by 30%" says nothing without scope, budget and team size
  • What changes in an interview when the role carries budget and headcount
  • How the salary band is set before you enter the conversation

The U.S. market does not doubt your experience. It cannot interpret it.

American companies do not know your former employer, its title structure, or the context in which your results were achieved. The person reading your profile is not measuring your merit. They are trying to predict your performance and estimate the risk of a bad hire.

The problem stops being experience and becomes translation of context.

Title

The same role abroad can map to director, senior manager or head in the United States, each with a different scope, band and expectation. The mistranslation is usually made by the candidate, at the moment of choosing which roles to apply for.

Results

A number without scope does not read as an achievement. How many people, what budget, in which market, against what baseline. Without that, the result becomes a claim, and the claim becomes noise.

Compensation

Base salary is one component. Target bonus, equity, sign-on and relocation follow their own rules, inside bands that are set before you join the conversation. Someone who does not know the structure negotiates the wrong item.

There are four filters on the way to an offer. None of them is the interview.

The interview is where most available preparation concentrates, and it is the fourth stage. The three before it decide whether it happens at all.

1. Screening system 2. Recruiter fit and band 3. Hiring manager risk and scope 4. Panel interviews Offer format and wording title translation scope and context leadership narrative

What gets decided at each stage, and what usually stops an international profile.

What changes when the starting point is the inside

The question stops being how to answer and becomes how you are assessed

Almost all international career content is created by people who went through a selection process themselves. The starting point here is different: opening roles, running interviews, comparing finalists and approving offers and promotions inside a U.S. company. That changes the guidance, because the focus moves to what happens before and after the interview, not only during it.

A director does not compete the way an analyst does

At executive level, the assessment is about scope, influence, stakeholder management, quality of judgment under uncertainty and financial impact. Those criteria barely appear in general career content, and they are what decide whether you enter the conversation and in which band.

The work starts before the move

Waiting until you arrive in the United States costs months. Positioning, materials, narrative, target company mapping and network are built from where you are now. When the subject turns to visas or petitions, the referral goes to specialist attorneys. Board USA does not provide immigration advice.

Houston, and a market where the comparison is international

Houston is one of the largest corporate energy hubs in the world, with hiring processes in which professionals from many nationalities compete for the same leadership roles. The method applies to any structured corporate sector; the examples and the inside reading come from there.

This is not for every professional who wants to work in the United States

It is for you if

  • You work as a senior manager, head, director, VP or C-level
  • You already own a team, a budget or a result, and want an equivalent seat in the United States
  • Your English is good enough to run an executive meeting, accent included
  • You are abroad planning the move, or already in the United States and not being read at your level

It is not for you if

  • You are looking for a first job, an internship or an entry-level role
  • You need visa, petition or green card advice
  • You expect a guaranteed role, interview or timeline
  • You want a shortcut rather than preparation

Who is behind this

Rafael Souza is Brazilian, lives in Houston and holds a senior corporate position in the energy sector. Over his career in the United States he has been on both sides of the process: he applied and was hired, and later moved on to hiring, leading teams and taking part in promotion decisions.

Board USA exists because of the distance between those two sides. What gets taught about American careers describes the process from the outside. What changes the decision happens inside the room.

Board USA is a career education and preparation practice. It is not a recruiting agency and does not provide legal or immigration advice.

Frequently asked

Do you guarantee an interview or a job?

No, and no one can. The work is positioning, materials, search strategy, interview preparation and offer negotiation. The decision always belongs to the company and depends on the market, your profile and your execution.

Do I need work authorization already?

Not for the content or the preparation. Much of the positioning work happens before any move. When visas or petitions become the subject, the referral goes to specialist attorneys. Board USA does not provide immigration advice.

Does this work if I am still outside the United States?

Yes, and that is part of the point. Narrative, materials, target company mapping and network can be built from a distance, months before the move.

Is this only for the energy sector?

No. The inside experience comes from energy, in Houston, and that is where the examples come from. The logic of title translation, scope reading and hiring decisions applies to any structured corporate sector.

Is the guide really free?

It is. No cost and no card required. It arrives by email and you can leave the list whenever you want.

When do the one-to-one sessions and the course open?

Not yet open. Whoever downloads the guide hears first, with terms and the number of seats.

Is there a version of this in Portuguese?

Yes. Brazilian professionals can read everything in Portuguese at boardusa.com.br.
